The Identity Project

This blog documents a five-part assignment for Social Work 201 - Foundations of the Social Work Profession at the University of Calgary. The assignment asks students to explore their emerging professional social work identity by connecting course learning to personal values, professional experience, and practice.

I am a municipal government employee returning to school after thirty years to formalize an education that connects directly to work I am already doing. Through this site, I am building a record of how the language, frameworks, and perspectives of social work are shaping the way I understand the systems I work within and the Calgarians those systems are meant to serve.

Each post corresponds to one module in the course:

  • Part 1 — Historical Development, Theoretical and Philosophical Foundations

  • Part 2 — Foundational Skills for Social Workers

  • Part 3 — Fields of Social Work Practice

  • Part 4 — Ethical and Professional Practice

  • Part 5 — Integrated Presentation

This project is both an academic assignment and a personal exploration of equity, public service, and the systems that shape our communities.

Archival Reflections

Theory Meets Practice

This project explores how academic learning and lived experience intersect, shaping the way I understand social work, public service, and the communities I am called to serve.
